why individuality is not lost
One of the main concerns about uniforms is the students expression of individuality. When I surveyed a group of people, 57% of the individuals believed that the uniforms changed or inhibited the students individuality. Eighty-six percent of those who were surveyed had not attended a school with uniforms. When I interviewed students who attended schools with uniforms, none of them expressed concern about individuality. There were many solutions brought to my attention from those who had uniforms.
One of these solutions includes accessories. All of the three schools that were included in the interviews had allowed the students to individualize their outfits in subtle ways. They were not forced to wear their hair in any certain way or limit their jewelry to a certain number or style. This allows the students to still express themselves, only not as clearly as they would be able to without uniforms.

- “[The students] can express their individuality... some girls wear scarves, doing something special with their hair, or wearing their UGG boots. Some guys get the newest pair of Jordan sneakers or Nikes.” -Caitlin Duncan
